Penny University was the brain-child of Alison Atkin, a current PhD candidate at the University of Sheffield.  Her incessant curiosity, penchant for learning, and a desire to share her enthusiasm with others led to its creation (well that, plus her sheer unwillingness to give up on an idea).

Penny University is an online show that features interviews with the people who look for answers to the questions that we ask every day (and sometimes to questions we’ve never thought to ask).  We regularly feature scientists, researchers, and students who study everything from biology to literature.

Our university motto is iocus / scolasticus, which translates roughly as fun / educational, because the aim of this show is to learn about anything and everything – and to have a good time in the process!

Penny University has been made possible with funding from the online science engagement event I’m a Scientist, Get Me Out of Here, specifically the 2012 Wellcome Trust event, In the Zone.
